This standard specifies the format for marking optical characteristics and other information on stereomicroscopes (including operating microscopes), and provides recommended additional markings. It requires that the microscope body be marked with the manufacturer's name, model name, and serial number. Interchangeable or replaceable objectives must be marked with the magnification factor. For zoom stereomicroscopes, the total magnification factor shall be marked on the zoom body. Optical characteristic markings shall include magnification, working distance, and field of view diameter. This is the first release, modified adoption of ISO 11883:1997.

本标准规定了体视显微镜（包括操作显微镜）上标志光学特性等信息的格式，并给出了推荐的附加信息标志。标准要求显微镜主体上标志制造厂名称、型号名称和制造编号，可互换或可更换的物镜上必须标志放大率系数。对于变倍体视显微镜，总放大率的系数应标志在变倍体上。光学特性标志应包括放大率、工作距离和视场直径。该标准为首次发布，修改采用ISO 11883:1997。
