This standard specifies the criteria and procedures for determining whether an area is a Kashin-Beck disease (KBD) endemic zone, as well as the methods for monitoring, controlling, and verifying the elimination of the disease. It is applied by public health authorities in China for the classification of KBD-affected regions, the implementation of prevention and control measures, and the official acceptance inspection of disease eradication efforts. The standard is used in epidemiological surveys, health administration, and field assessments within rural areas where KBD historically occurs.
